Our sponsorship and giving initiatives complement our business strategies and let our diverse teams and employees contribute to the local communities in which we live and work. 2012
The Expanding Your Horizons Network is a non-profit membership organization of educators, scientists, mathematicians, parents, community leads, and government and corporate representatives. Their mission is to nurture girls' interest in pursuing science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers through hands-on activities. IV is proud to be hosting several conferences in the Seattle and D.C. areas as our volunteers assist as STEM role models to middle and high school girls, motivating them to be innovative and creative thinkers.
The FIRST-Robotics program brings together more than 100 high-school teams with science and technology professionals to compete in a robotics competition. By running their teams like a company, FIRST students learn the business of invention first-hand. IV volunteers help foster an interest in invention and technology by mentoring and judging students. FIRST has active chapters across the US, and we are excited to begin our involvement with FIRST at the program's Seattle-area competition.
2011
Alliance of Angels
For several years, we have supported the Alliance of Angels (AoA), which brings together established investors with promising young companies across the Pacific Northwest. We strongly believe in supporting the local business community, and the AoA has given more than $60 million to support local businesses.
Asia IP Exchange
We sponsored the inaugural 2011 Asia IP Exchange in May. The event combined a traditional conference with customized one-on-one meetings, as well as unique interactive breakout sessions. Many of Asia's leading companies attended the event.
AUTM- International Technology Transfer Beijing Conference
The AUTM-Asia 2011 conference is jointly organized by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Science and Technology (BSTC), Peking University, Department of International Cooperation Ministry of Science and Technology, Torch Hi-tech Industry Development Center Ministry of Science and Technology, Association University of Technology Managers (AUTM), and the Agency for the Diffusion of Technologies for Innovation, Italy. The purpose is to build international cooperation in tech transfer and joint innovation through new partnerships between local and overseas participants.
Bellevue High School Robotics
For the past eight years, we have sponsored the Bellevue High School Robotics Team's entry to the FIRST competition. Like many FIRST chapters, Bellevue High students run their club like a business and work with mentors to establish financing, sales, designs and communications—which is all brought together when they enter a robot into the FIRST regional competition.
Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose
We sponsored the Legacy for Children Award for the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose, which honors those whose work has benefited the learning and lives of children. By contributing to this event, we also supported the museum's community programs, which provide over 70,000 visitors free or reduced admission each year.
China National Invention Contest
IV China sponsored the first ever China Central Television National Invention Contest, which significantly increased the awareness of IV in China. IV China President Sheng Yan was featured as a judge and can be seen at the 18:20 mark in this episode.

ICT Challenge+R 2011 Competition
To help further education for students in science and technology, we are sponsors of the 2011 ICT Challenge. This competition challenges high school students from all over the world to design and build an original software product.
Institute for Systems Biology International Symposium
This year's Institute for Systems Biology Symposium brought together some of the leading researchers in systems biology and systems theories. As a sponsor of this event, we show our support for using technology and research to advance health care and medicine.
IP Business Congress
The 2011 IP Business Congress brought together leaders in IP business and finance to discuss issues crucial to the industry. IV's own Joe Chernesky (Vice President of Licensing) and Loria Yeadon (Executive Vice President of IIF) were featured speakers at the 2011 congress. Leading Women in Technology: Wilpower
Leading Women in Technology (LWT), a non-profit dedicated to unleashing the potential of the women it serves, manages the Wilpower Career Development Program. This 10-session workshop and mentoring series is designed to support women in technology, IP, and licensing professions expand their career vision develop critical skills, and extend their network of contacts. Our sponsorship helps subsidize the participation of approximately 60 women, including IV colleagues.
Open Minds
As a sponsor of the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance's (NCIIA) Open Minds event, IV President and COO Adriane Brown judged a collection of cutting-edge technology web-videos from some of the country's brightest college teams. The NCIIA encourages technology innovation in colleges and universities across the world, and we're thrilled to support this competition.
Pacific Science Center
Seattle's leading science exhibition center inspires an interest in science across all ages. We are proud to support the Pacific Science Center by sponsoring its Festival of the Fountains event.
The Sedona Conference
The Sedona Conference's think-tank Working Groups bring together jurists, lawyers, experts, and academics at the cutting edge of antitrust, complex litigation, and intellectual property rights law to develop best practices and guiding principles that will benefit governing bodies and the public.
7th Annual EcoDesign Conference
The EcoDesign Conference takes place from November 30 to December 2 in Kyoto, Japan. We are looking forward to using this sponsorship opportunity to develop relationships with researchers in environmentally conscious design and inverse manufacturing fields.
Washington Technology Industry Association
IV sponsored the Washington Technology Industry Association (WTIA) because we believe it's important to stay involved and connected with the local technology community. Through its many events, benefits and broad membership base, the WTIA uses its resources to help support Washington's technology community.
